I suggest you go to Expedia or Travelocity and search on hotels in the Secaucus, NJ area, which is on the Route 3 corridor. You will surely find something for between 100 – 150. From there, you can very easily drive to Journal Square in Jersey City and take the Path train ($1.75) to NYC, either 33rd St. or World Trade Center.
