Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in Philadelphia near Temple University that doesn’t cost over 125 per week

There are 6 suggestions to question “Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in Philadelphia near Temple University that doesn’t cost over 125 per week”

  1. If you mean $125 per week, no,at least not hotel. The cheapest hotels in Philly, which I wouldn’t put anyone in, $500 per week minimum.

The average cost of an apartment near temple is about $800 per month for 2 bedrooms plus utilities, etc., so that might be possible, check out philly.com for classifieds, tho most roommates are booked by this point as they tend to carry from year to year.

  2. Most hotels in Philadelphia cost more than 125 per night. That would work out to $600 per month. There are plenty of apartments and rooms in today’s Inquirer under that price.

  3. I would suggest templepads.com. There are listings for shared apartments/houses. You are not going to find any hotel in Philly for $125 a week. You can’t even find a hotel/motel for $125 a night. Definitely try Temple pads. Students share 3 and 4 bedroom houses, ranging from $300-$500 by the way they are newly renovated and gorgeous. Also try craigslist.com or philly.com and search in classifieds. Good luck on your search! Also try academiasuites.com. They have mini apartments (Studios-2 bedrooms) for college students and have a shuttle bus to transport you to and from your campus. Yono Apartments are nice too. Studios start at $500/month.

  4. $125 a week isn’t computing…you must mean $1250 per week. $125 a week breaks down to $25 per night. It is 2008 after all.

$125 PER night is the average rate for a room in Philly. The Hilton Garden Inn or Hampton Inn in Center City Philadelphia typically fall around that much, and are convenient to transit to Temple, around 15-20 minutes, as well being in a safe area.

  5. Per week? No way. Probably not even per night. And it certainly wouldn’t be safe at that price. Temple isn’t in the safest part of the city anyway.

  6. If you go west at Broad & Spring Garden, you hit the B.F. Parkway, but there should also be something on/off of Broad Street near Hahnemann Hospital further north. There might be something around where Zavel’s book store is/was at Montgommery or Columbia Ave. or north at Susqehanna-Dauphin near ROTC armory. The irony is that Temple University campus was originally row houses. I’d opt for anyplace with good transportaion along North Broad Street–the C bus route–I lived at 10th & Lindley in Logan. Hubby might look around Board of Ed. Bldg. off of Parkway, but proximity to Temple is less important than good transportation! He has the subway on Broad Street, and easy access to a subway stop as far away from Temple campus is also a suggestion…or go where the Philly water is drinkable! Hubby might consider living on the U of P campus or on South Broad Street, so the bus will go north on Broad Street to Temple University. Live anywhere you can buy bottled water, or anywhere he doesn’t sign a lease till he becomes acquainted with Philly to find the place that better suits him. Philly water not only tastes bad but it (when I lived there) had lead, so it’s best to let the tap run first, and some sections of the City have industry and hence air pollution. There is/was a hotel where the Reading R.R. Station once stood called The Uptown or Inn Town on North Broad Street if he needs quick lodgings for 1-2 nights. I wonder where the interns at Temple Hospital reside? He could then take bus/ subway to Temple U.
