You sound like a saint for helping someone who probably doesn’t know what they want. What I would do is make sure you are checking JUST the flight option on expedia, travelocity, etc, as the sites often default to "flight plus hotel." You’ll get the price for just the plane plus the airline taxes and fees; you can’t buy a ticket without those items so you might as well price it with them built in. Don’t purchase the ticket yet, just make a note of the flight numbers, airlines and prices. If your friend doesn’t know the date, pick a Tuesday and a Friday in the same week to do your price checks as Tuesday is often the least expensive day to fly, and Friday is often the most expensive.
Then go back to Expedia and run the same search but this time with Hotel options added on. Note the names and descriptions of the most expensive and least expensive packages. Price the same hotels for the same dates. Then give the person all their options.
Let the person decide if the package rates are worth the loss of flexibility— sometimes you do save a lot of money by purchasing the air and hotel together but you won’t be able to change hotels partway through or drop a couple of nights to stay with friends.
As for bus to wherever— most hotels in Orlando that are reasonably close to the attractions offer free shuttle busses. You can restrict your expedia search to only show you hotels within 5 miles of Disney and 9 times out of 10 you will have the free shuttle to the attractions, and you can confirm once your friend has made up her mind, what she wants to do. No point in researching 5 different options on 10 different hotels if you don’t even know if you’ll be buying a package or not!
Bus to the beaches: Orlando is a good two hours driving from any beaches. There are definitely services that will take you for a day trip to the beach but the hotels will not give you this as a free amenity. Your friend will probably be better off renting a car for the day, which you can pick up and return at the airport or in many hotels; the bus rates will be around $20/person depending on the company, and the rental car will be about $50 depending on the options you pick. So it might be cheaper, depending on how many people are travelling, and you will have more flexibility with a car.
