I’m from Austin, and unfortunately I don’t know of any safe hotel/motel that charges that little (cheapest is about $50/night), so you may want to consider a hostel. Check http://www.hiaustin.org/about.shtml for more info and prices under the "Reservations" link on the left. It’s about $22/night each, for a dorm bed (including a surcharge for non-members).

Alternatively, if money is extremely pressing and you don’t mind sleeping in a tent, you could look into the Lone Star RV Park (http://www.austinlonestar.com/) on the west side of IH-35 just south of the William Cannon intersection, or something similar.

Just be sure to check reviews/ratings of anywhere you consider. Don’t compromise your safety to save a few dollars!

There is a place on the south west corner of 35 and rundberg that does like 225$ for 2 weeks!
I not sure of the name, but it is a few hundred feet just past the crossroad.
